Maldivian Customer Visits LLH to Review Lightning Strike Counter

A customer from the Maldives recently visited the Shenzhen R\&D center and test workshop of Shenzhen LLH Electrical Co., Ltd. The visit focused on surge protection and lightning monitoring components for local power infrastructure. It followed the customer's earlier procurement of LLH's LS-CH series signal surge protectors, indicating continued confidence in the product line.

The Maldives has a tropical maritime climate, with consistently high humidity and a salt-laden atmosphere. Distribution and communication systems in such environments are exposed to both lightning activity and corrosion stress, making equipment selection and installation practice critical. During the visit, the customer concentrated on two areas: intelligent lightning strike counters capable of recording surge events, and the selection of connecting cables between SPDs, grounding systems, and distribution panels.

The customer inspected LLH's lightning test setup, which includes an 8/20 µs 60 kA surge current generator. This test capacity covers the nominal discharge-current testing requirements of most low and medium-voltage SPDs and associated accessories. The discussion also covered LLH's lightning monitoring solutions. The LSC-500H lightning strike counter, for example, is designed to IEC 62561-6 and records induced currents from 500 A to 100 kA for both 8/20 µs and 10/350 µs waveforms, with a maximum count of 9,999 events. It uses a built-in high-capacity lithium battery (no external power required), carries an IP67 rating for indoor and outdoor use, and can be mounted on flat steel, flat copper, cables, or down-conductors — suited to long-term, maintenance-free counting in a humid, salt-laden island environment.

The two sides also exchanged views on cabling practice between SPDs and grounding arrangements. In a high-salinity environment, conductor cross-section, terminal torque, and grounding continuity directly affect the reliability of the discharge path. LLH's technical team explained the relevant wiring and selection boundaries with reference to GB/T 18802.11-2020 for power SPDs and GB/T 18802.21-2016 for signal and network SPDs.

The visit provided a basis for further quotation and solution adaptation. LLH will prepare a detailed lightning-strike counter layout and cable matching list based on the customer's on-site distribution drawings.
